How nurses actually pay for GCU

Check your employer's tuition reimbursement list before anything else. It is the fastest way to change what a programme costs you, it often settles which schools are even on your list, and it takes one email. Federal aid and scholarships come after that, not before.

The order that matters

  • Employer reimbursement first. Many hospital systems maintain a list of approved institutions and a per-year cap. If GCU is on it, that is money you do not borrow.
  • Transfer credit second. Every credit accepted is a credit you do not pay for. It moves your total more than any scholarship.
  • Federal aid third, through the FAFSA, as an accredited institution.
  • Institutional scholarships last, because they are usually the smallest lever of the four.
Reimbursement usually pays in arrears

Most employer schemes reimburse after you pass the course, not before you take it. That is a cash-flow question rather than a cost question, and it catches people who budgeted for the net figure.

What to confirm in writing

The per-year cap, whether it resets on the calendar or fiscal year, whether a minimum grade is required, and whether leaving within a set period triggers repayment. All four are common, and all four are knowable before you enrol.

Common follow-ups

Does GCU accept federal financial aid?

Yes. GCU is an accredited institution and participates in federal student aid programmes, so the FAFSA applies.

Will my employer pay for GCU?

Many hospital systems reimburse tuition at approved institutions up to an annual cap. Check your employer's approved list first, as it often decides which schools are realistic.

Is employer tuition reimbursement paid upfront?

Usually not. Most schemes reimburse after successful completion of the course, which is a cash-flow consideration worth planning for.
